Hamas negotiating chief Khalil al-Haya said the movement had received assurances from the United States and mediators that the agreement on the first phase of the ceasefire in Gaza would mark a definitive end to the war.
According to al-Hayee, the signed agreement paves the way for the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and the restoration of the border crossing with Egypt, which will alleviate the critical humanitarian situation in the region.
Former US President Donald Trump previously announced the signing of the first phase of the peace plan. According to Al Jazeera, the agreement provides for a prisoner exchange and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza. Israel has committed to release 250 Palestinians sentenced to life imprisonment , as well as 1,700 Gazans arrested since the beginning of the conflict .
Al-Haya emphasized that the ceasefire is an important step toward restoring peace and normalizing life for the population, but a number of key issues remain unresolved. Specifically, these include the governance of the Gaza Strip and the status of Hamas itself , which so far refuses to disarm.
The parties' actions are aimed at creating conditions for a long-term ceasefire and a gradual resolution of the conflict in the region. Internationally, the agreement is already seen as an important step toward stabilizing the situation, but experts note that a final settlement will require further negotiations and comprehensive political decisions.
