The Council of Ulema of Tajikistan has approved the exact date for Eid al-Fitr in 2026. The Muslim holiday of sacrifice will reportedly be celebrated in the country on May 27.
It is noted that the date was determined based on the conclusion of the Institute of Astrophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.
The Committee for Religious Affairs, Regulation of Traditions, Celebrations, and Ceremonies of the Republic was informed of the decision. The agency also announced that the Eid prayer will take place at 6:00 a.m.
During the meeting of the Ulema Council, its chairman, Saidmukarram Abdulkodirzoda, called on participants to pay special attention in their sermons to the education of adolescents and young people, preventing their involvement in extremist structures, and providing assistance to those in need.
He also stressed the need to avoid extravagance during festive events.
It is reported that this year Eid al-Adha falls on a weekday, and therefore this day has been declared a holiday.
Eid al-Qurbon is the Muslim Festival of Sacrifice and is celebrated 70 days after Eid al-Fitr. The holiday marks the completion of the Hajj—the pilgrimage to Mecca, which takes place from the 8th to the 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah in the Muslim lunar calendar.
Muslim religious holidays are celebrated on different dates each year because the Islamic calendar consists of approximately 354 days, which is 10–11 days shorter than the solar year. This is why the dates of holidays shift annually.
According to Islamic tradition, on the days of Eid al-Qurbon, Muslims, observing the established rules, perform the sacrifice of a ram or a cow.
