On the night of July 16, Russian forces launched a combined attack on Ukrainian territory. Kyiv was attacked with ballistic missiles, while Kharkiv was hit by drone strikes, Deutsche Welle reported, citing Ukrainian authorities.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, at least four ballistic missiles were launched at Kyiv. A series of powerful explosions rocked the city, followed by massive fires.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that two people were killed and six others were injured in the attack, including a 16-year-old boy. He added that three of the injured were hospitalized.
According to Klitschko, in the Darnytskyi district, rocket debris fell on a non-residential building, where a fire broke out. A non-residential building was also hit at another address. In the Svyatoshinskyi district, the missile struck a warehouse, where a fire also broke out.
That same night, Russian troops launched a drone attack on Kharkiv. According to Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov, strikes were recorded in the Kyivskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts.
According to Terekhov, one of the drones struck a park in the Shevchenkivskyi district. The strike damaged a movie theater, a parking lot, and tennis courts.
Additionally, another strike in the Shevchenkivskyi district occurred on the premises of a garage cooperative. Preliminary reports indicate that a drone also struck a residential building in the Nemyshlyanskyi district of the city.
