In the first half of 2026, 741 natural emergencies were registered in Tajikistan. Avalanches, mudflows, and strong winds caused the greatest damage to the country's population and economy, according to a press conference by the Tajik Emergency Situations Committee.
According to the agency, over the past six months, the country has experienced 508 avalanches, 123 mudflows, 27 strong winds, 27 rockfalls, 26 earthquakes, 10 landslides, 11 heavy rains, four high water levels, four heavy snowfalls, and one thunderstorm.
As a result of the most devastating natural disasters, the economies of cities and regions of the republic suffered damage in the amount of 52 million 827 thousand somoni .
Twelve people died in the emergencies. Seven died as a result of mudflows: one in Tursunzade, three in Kulyab, two in the Shamsiddin Shokhin district, and one in the Panj district. Two more people died in avalanches in the Varzob district, one in a rockfall in the Rushan district, one in a landslide in Panjakent, and one in strong winds in the Sino district of Dushanbe.
The Committee noted that it continues to work to prevent emergencies, monitor hazardous natural processes, and improve the readiness of emergency response units.
