Spain started with Simón, Porro, Cubarsi, Laporte, Cucurella, Rodri, Ruiz, Yamal, Olmo, Baena, and Oyarzabal. Argentina's starting lineup included E. Martínez, Montiel, Romero, L. Martínez, Tagliafico, De Paul, Mac Allister, Enzo, N. González, Messi, and Álvarez.
The only goal was scored by substitute Ferran Torres in the 106th minute. From the 93rd minute onward, Argentina were down to ten men due to Enzo Fernandez's sending-off.
For the Spanish national team, this is the second world championship title after their triumph at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
On the eve of the World Championship, the English team won bronze medals by defeating France (6:4) in the match for third place.
