On the night of April 25, the Russian army launched a massive attack on Ukrainian territory using cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as drones. Air raid sirens were issued in virtually every region of the country, according to Ukrainian authorities and the Ukrainian Air Force.
According to preliminary data, at least eight people were killed and more than 50 were injured as a result of the attacks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian strikes continued almost all night. He said the main target of the attacks was urban infrastructure.
The main focus of the attack was the city of Dnipro in southeastern Ukraine. According to Oleksandr Ganzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, rescuers recovered the bodies of five people from the rubble of a destroyed apartment building. Three more fatalities were later reported in subsequent attacks.
According to regional authorities, more than 50 people were injured in Dnipro. Residential buildings and city infrastructure were damaged.
In the Chernihiv region, according to local authorities, two people were killed and seven others were injured as a result of a Russian attack. Explosions also rocked Kyiv, Kharkiv, and several other Ukrainian cities.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that a Russian drone struck a residential building in the city's Saltovsky district. The attack damaged a gas pipeline.
Oleg Sinegubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that a two-story private home was damaged in the Nemyshlyansky district. He said two people were injured, including an 18-month-old child.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian Tu-95 strategic bombers launched cruise missiles over the Caspian Sea after midnight. As the missiles approached Ukrainian territory, the Russian side additionally deployed attack drones and ballistic missiles.
Ukrainian military officials believe that the Russian army was attempting to overload Ukraine's air defense system by simultaneously using various types of weapons.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 610 drones and 47 missiles of various types during the attack.
Russia has been waging military operations against Ukraine for over four years. Russian troops control approximately one-fifth of Ukrainian territory. Amid regular airstrikes across the country, civilians continue to be killed and injured.
