In Dushanbe, a grand Football Festival was held at the Central Republican Stadium in honor of World Football Day, initiated by the Dushanbe City Executive Authority. NIAT Khovar reports.
The festival was organized to promote a healthy lifestyle, strengthen friendship and camaraderie, develop athletic skills, and popularize football among the population.
During the opening ceremony, it was emphasized that, on the initiative of the President of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA), the President of the Football Federation of Tajikistan, Rustami Emomali, and on the basis of a special resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, World Football Day is officially celebrated annually on May 25.
Participants of the event noted that this demonstrates Tajikistan's active role in the international arena and the country's contribution to strengthening universal values, peace, friendship, mutual understanding, solidarity, and cooperation through sport.
"Football is not only one of the most popular and widespread sports in the world, but also an important means of improving health, physical and spiritual development, and strengthening humanism and unity in society," it was noted during the festival.
It was also emphasized that the Football Federation of Tajikistan strives to create the necessary conditions for the development and popularization of football in all regions of the country.
The event's organizers noted that World Football Day allows for greater attention to be paid to this sport as an effective means of physical and spiritual development for young people.
The country's leadership, particularly Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, has stated that it places special emphasis on the development of sports. Thanks to government support, Tajik athletes have regularly participated in international competitions in recent years, winning prizes and representing Tajikistan with distinction on the global stage.
It is reported that 11,000 new sports facilities have been built in the country since independence. The successful performance of Tajik football players at the Asian Cup, according to event participants, was proof that, with the continued support of the government, Tajikistan's youth are achieving high results in sports and raising the national flag on the international stage.
The festival included various sports and cultural programs involving children, teenagers, and young people.
As a reminder, on May 7, 2024, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring May 25 as World Football Day. The initiative to establish this date was proposed by Rustami Emomali, President of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) and Chairman of the Football Federation of Tajikistan.
