A meeting of the expert group to finalize and approve the draft Basic Information Policy Framework for the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the Border Sphere took place on December 3–4 at the CIS headquarters, the press service of the Organization's Executive Committee reported.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, the Council of Commanders of the Border Troops and the Coordination Service of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth.
The experts discussed the states' positions on the proposals submitted for the draft Principles, finalized the document, and approved it by a majority vote. It was decided to submit it to the CIS Council of Heads of State for consideration in accordance with established procedures.
Let us recall that the draft Fundamentals of Information Policy was developed on the basis of paragraph 1.1.4 of the CIS Cooperation Program in Strengthening Border Security at External Borders for 2021–2025.
The need for its preparation is due to new realities in the CIS information space, associated with challenges and threats in the information sphere, the active development of information and communication technologies, their impact on the information infrastructure and environment, as well as the maintenance of security and stability at the borders in general.
The adoption of the document will allow countries to develop and adjust information policies within the Commonwealth in the interests of implementing the agreed border policy.
