The city of Panjakent has been officially recognized by the World Crafts Council (WCC) as a "World Crafts City for Suzani Embroidery," according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The decision to award the honorary title was made on October 21, 2025, and marks an important step in preserving and promoting the country's rich cultural heritage. This status highlights the outstanding skill of Tajik artisans and the centuries-old traditions of suzani embroidery, carefully preserved and developed in the ancient city of Panjakent.
The World Crafts Council (WCC) is an international organization affiliated with UNESCO whose activities aim to promote economic development through crafts, support artisans and expand international cooperation in the field of traditional artistic crafts.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, designating Panjakent as a "World City of Crafts" will strengthen Tajikistan's international image, expand cultural ties, and develop the region's tourism potential.
Previously, similar titles were awarded to cities such as Fez (Morocco), Jaipur (India) and Cholpon-Ata (Kyrgyzstan), where unique craft traditions are preserved.
