From September 29 to October 3, 2025, a special exercise of the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), codenamed "Cobalt-2025," was held at the training ground of the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The exercise was conducted in accordance with the Joint Training Plan for the Command Bodies and Formations of the Forces and Assets of the CSTO Collective Security System for 2025, the CSTO press service reported.
The event was attended by special units of the internal affairs agencies, national security, internal troops (National Guard), as well as special and anti-drug services, emergency rescue and firefighting structures of the CSTO member states.
In combat-like conditions, special forces honed their skills in conducting an independent special operation. An operational headquarters composed of representatives from CSTO member states practiced planning operations, making decisions on their implementation, and organizing the command and control of units. A field command post was established to lead the special operation.
The exercises included practical exercises involving joint special forces task forces, as well as tactical shooting competitions with live weapons. Armored vehicles, specialized vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and combat aircraft were used to support the training process.
Observers from the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure (EC RATS) of the SCO and the CIS Analytical Center attended the exercise. The overall leadership of the exercise was provided by Major General A.S. Baltabekov, Commander-in-Chief of the National Guard and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Following the exercises, CSTO Deputy Secretary General V. Semerikov noted the high quality of preparation, the coordinated and efficient work of the operational headquarters, and the high level of combat and special training of the personnel. He emphasized that the exercise's objectives were fully achieved and the assigned tasks fulfilled.
The successful conduct of the exercises was facilitated by a training and methodological meeting with the leadership of the governing bodies and commanders of the units of the CSTO FSSN CRRF, held the day before jointly by employees of the CSTO Secretariat and the National Guard of Kazakhstan.
At the end of the exercises, the most distinguished employees and military personnel were awarded prizes.
