As a result of a missile strike on a residential apartment building in the Svyatoshinsky district of Kyiv, which took place on the night of July 31, the death toll has risen to 26 people, including three children. This was reported on Thursday by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES).
According to official information, during the night and morning, rescuers pulled out the bodies of ten more victims from under the rubble, including a two-year-old child. According to updated data, a total of 159 people were injured in the attack, including 16 children. Psychologists from the State Emergency Service provided emergency assistance to 112 victims.
Rescue and demolition work is ongoing at the scene. 180 emergency service personnel and 60 units of specialized equipment have been involved in the aftermath. More than 2,000 tons of construction debris have already been removed from under the rubble.
Earlier, Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klimenko reported that the missile hit the structure of a residential building near the fifth floor. As a result of the impact, part of the building collapsed, and residents were buried under concrete slabs.
By decision of the city authorities, August 1 has been declared a day of mourning in Kyiv.
