The CIS economies continue to thrive, and trade within the Commonwealth is growing, said Sergei Lebedev, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Independent States, on the evening broadcast of the ONT television channel, according to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
According to Sergei Lebedev, growth rates in the CIS countries exceed the economic growth rates in the European Union.
"Trade turnover and GDP have now increased in all CIS countries. Unlike the West and Europe, where growth is perhaps 1% or 0.5%, here in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Armenia, GDP growth is reaching up to 12%," he stated.
Last Friday, a meeting of the CIS Prime Ministers' Council was held in Ashgabat, during which a number of documents aimed at developing cooperation were adopted.
Belarusian Prime Minister Alexander Turchin attended the meeting. He noted that the CIS has played a significant role in maintaining stability in the post-Soviet space.
"In a short historical period, having traveled a difficult path, the Commonwealth has played a significant role in maintaining stability in the post-Soviet space," said Alexander Turchin at a restricted meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS countries.
According to him, the CIS has become a stable regional platform for interaction between states across a wide range of areas.
During the meeting, the Council of Heads of Government declared Minsk the CIS Youth Capital for 2027. Karaganda will receive this status in 2028.
The next meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council will be held in Moscow in December of this year.
