The US State Department has renamed the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) in Washington, D.C., the Donald Trump Institute of Peace, RIA Novosti reports.
"This morning, the State Department renamed the former Institute of Peace in honor of the greatest dealmaker in our nation's history. Welcome to the Donald Trump Institute of Peace. The best is yet to come," the State Department said in a post on the social media platform X.
Attached to the post is a photo of the institute building, which displays an inscription with the American leader's first and last name.
The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) was established by the US Congress in 1984 under President Ronald Reagan. Its primary missions were then defined as research, analysis, and training in diplomacy and mediation to promote peace. Later, the Americans built on USIP to create a system for international conflict analysis. Under the auspices of the institute, branches operated in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan, and Sudan.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump renamed the US Department of Defense the Department of War. The president explained the decision by citing the US's victory in two world wars, as well as other conflicts in the 20th century.
