Tajik President Emomali Rahmon stated that the misuse of artificial intelligence makes terrorism and cyberterrorism particularly dangerous, affecting the security of citizens and government agencies. He made this statement in an address to participants of the Third CIS Conference on Countering Terrorism and Extremism, currently underway in Dushanbe.
The president's address was read by Yusuf Rahmon, Secretary of the Republic's Security Council. The head of state emphasized that modern terrorist and extremist groups are using cyberspace to spread radical ideas and criminal intent, and that artificial intelligence technologies can increase the danger of these actions.
"Cyberterrorism has become a major factor influencing the worldview of some young people. The abuse of artificial intelligence makes it particularly dangerous, as it can affect the security of both citizens and government agencies," Emomali Rahmon noted.
The President of the Republic emphasized that "adapting to new realities requires new technical capabilities, the implementation of modern software, and the rapid exchange of information." He also expressed concern about the growth in drug smuggling, particularly synthetic drugs, which are now one of the main sources of funding for terrorist groups.
Emomali Rahmon also noted that stability in Afghanistan is a crucial factor in ensuring the security of Tajikistan and the entire region. The President emphasized the need to develop and implement joint, coordinated measures to combat the spread of terrorist ideology and the active cooperation of CIS intelligence agencies in this area. "In this regard, we must consider not only our own national interests, but also the shared security of the CIS member states," he added.
The Third CIS Conference on Countering Terrorism and Extremism is organized by the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan jointly with the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center. More than 150 delegates from competent authorities of 12 CIS and SCO countries are participating in the event. The conference serves as a platform for exchanging experiences, discussing methods for countering terrorist threats, cyber threats, and extremism, and strengthening cooperation between law enforcement and intelligence agencies of the region.
