In the village of Bobiobod, Zargari jamoat, Kushoniyon district, work has begun to clean up the site of a former pesticide warehouse, the press service of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan reported.
The site has posed a potential threat to local health and the environment for many years.

The cleanup is being carried out within the framework of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) project GEF 9421 “Demonstration of Non-thermal Processing of DDT Waste in Central Asia”.
The Environmental Protection Committee is taking all measures to ensure the safe disposal of old pesticide stockpiles, aimed at reducing environmental risks to the population and preventing possible contamination of the territory.

In addition to the immediate cleanup efforts, a broad information campaign is being conducted among local residents on the safe handling of toxic substances, aimed at increasing environmental awareness and preventing accidental contact with hazardous chemicals.
The project's implementation will create a safe environment on the site of the former warehouse, reduce public health threats, and preserve the region's ecological balance.
