On November 18, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon's working visit to Khujand began with the opening of the new building of the Sughd Region Oncology Center. This high-quality, well-equipped building was constructed in preparation for the great national holiday—the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan's independence, the presidential press service reported.
The new six-story Oncology Center building was constructed under the order of the Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, with funding from the Sughd Regional Executive Authority. The center, designed to accommodate 200 treatment beds, is unique in its design and diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
Construction of the new building for the Sughd Region Oncology Center began in August 2022, with more than 200 construction workers completing the work.
During his tour of the center's facilities, the Leader of the Nation was informed that the building houses 43 treatment rooms, three operating rooms with four modern surgical units, clinical, biochemical, morphological, and enzyme immunoassay laboratories, as well as ultrasound and endoscopic diagnostic rooms. Sixty medical specialists, including oncologists, work in five operating departments.
Medical equipment worth over 7 million somoni, manufactured by leading companies from developed countries, has been purchased for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. This equipment enables doctors to conduct timely diagnostics, detect the disease in its early stages, and promptly begin treatment for cancer patients.
At the same time, this allows for the effective implementation of the Republic of Tajikistan's national cancer control programs, which is especially important given the global rise in cancer incidence.
In the new building, patient admissions, diagnosis, and treatment are handled using a centralized electronic system. This system saves time for patients, doctors, and other staff.
Emomali Rahmon instructed the center's management and physicians to exercise maximum responsibility during the diagnosis and treatment of patients and to make a significant contribution to protecting public health.
During a tour of the new center's facilities and capabilities, it was noted that over the past few years, 18 doctors at the Sughd Region Oncology Center have received advanced training at leading global medical institutions and are currently using modern diagnostic and treatment methods. As a result of ongoing training, the doctors have introduced 26 new types of surgical procedures, 12 new chemotherapy methods with updated plans, and an additional 18 different types of tests.
Furthermore, the center's specialists collaborate with experienced physicians and professors from Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and other countries in the field of cancer diagnosis and treatment. The implementation of such important measures as staff training and the provision of necessary equipment has reduced the number of patients forced to travel abroad for cancer diagnosis and treatment.
The country's president instructed industry leaders and doctors to more actively conduct public awareness campaigns to prevent cancer and to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The center's new building includes a spacious 100-seat hall for consultations, meetings, and other professional events.
As a reminder, the center's old building was constructed in the 1960s and currently had only 130 treatment beds. With the opening of the new building, the total number of beds has increased to 330.
During the winter, the annex and auxiliary buildings are fully heated through the central heating system. The courtyard of the new building has been landscaped and designed to a high standard, making it beautiful and welcoming.
