The United States and China intend to work together to end the war in Ukraine. US President Donald Trump announced this after meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, DW reports.
The meeting took place on October 30 in Busan, South Korea. Following the talks, Trump, answering questions from reporters aboard Air Force One, noted that the parties had agreed to cooperate in resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
"We both intend to cooperate. We agree that both sides—Russia and Ukraine—are locked in hostilities. It's insane. But Xi will help us, and we intend to cooperate on Ukraine," the American leader declared.
Trump emphasized that he doesn't want the US to profit from the war in Ukraine. "I don't like to see six, seven, eight thousand young people, mostly soldiers, getting killed. It doesn't cost us anything. We're essentially making money. But I don't want to make money in this case," he said.
The US President added that the US sells weapons to NATO countries at full price, and the North Atlantic Alliance, in turn, supplies them to Ukraine.
In response to a follow-up question, Trump said the topic of Taiwan was not raised during his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Earlier, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against two of Russia's largest oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil. This decision led to a partial suspension of Russian oil supplies to China and India.
