Kamchybek Tashiev, Chairman of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of the Kyrgyz Republic, stated that the need for permanent border guard presence on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan may soon disappear. He made this announcement during the 91st meeting of the Council of Commanders of the Border Troops of the CIS Member States, which was held in Manas. Tashiev's remarks were reported by 24.kg.
According to Tashiev, the presidents of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan, Sadyr Japarov and Emomali Rahmon, are working to create conditions under which residents of the two neighboring countries could "live only in friendship."
"We are confident that with this level of trust and mutual understanding between our leaders, the permanent presence of border guards at the border will soon no longer be necessary," noted the head of Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security.
According to the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, as of October 25, 2025, extensive engineering work had been completed on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. Specifically, more than 107 kilometers of barriers—barbed wire, reinforced concrete posts, barbed wire, and 3D-printed fences—were installed, and over 143 kilometers of roads were built.
Other details regarding the possible lifting of the permanent border presence have not yet been disclosed.
