Meetings of the heads of security agencies, special services, and intelligence services of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will be held in Samarkand on October 16–17, according to the press service of the State Security Service (SSS) of Uzbekistan.
The events will include the 57th meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS countries, as well as the 21st meeting of the Conference of Heads of Security Agencies and Intelligence Services of the Commonwealth Member States.
The heads of the intelligence agencies of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan will attend the meetings. Representatives of the CIS Executive Committee and the Commonwealth Anti-Terrorism Center have also confirmed their participation.
The main topics of discussion include strengthening cooperation and coordination in the area of security within the CIS. Specifically, discussions will focus on measures to counter international terrorism and extremism, combat transnational organized crime, ensuring information security, and controlling the illicit international trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
Furthermore, current security threats are planned to be addressed and joint actions by Commonwealth countries to improve their effectiveness in countering new challenges. Specific objectives and areas of cooperation to ensure regional and global stability will be identified during the meetings.
