At the 38th meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Council for Healthcare Cooperation in Dushanbe, the plan of activities for the Year of Health in the CIS for 2026 and the official logo for the initiative were presented. This was reported by the CIS Executive Committee press service.
According to Alexander Semenov, Chairman of the Expert Group for the Development of the Action Plan, a representative of Belarus, the ministries of health of the CIS member states, the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the Commonwealth countries, the Secretariat of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the heads of relevant basic organizations of the Commonwealth, as well as the commissions and working groups of the Council, participated in the preparation of the plan.
The plan, approved in September at the meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council in Minsk, includes approximately 90 activities across 10 key areas. The focus is on preventing non-communicable diseases, developing primary health care, ensuring sanitary and epidemiological well-being, responding to emergencies, and implementing innovative technologies, including digital solutions, in healthcare.
The plan places particular emphasis on improving the qualifications of medical personnel, implementing joint training and scientific-educational initiatives, as well as organizing a competition for young leaders in the field of healthcare, scientific-practical conferences, symposia, and exhibitions.
"Implementing the action plan will consolidate the efforts of CIS countries in preserving and improving the health of their citizens, establish a systematic exchange of best practices and scientific achievements, conduct joint initiatives, and strengthen international cooperation both within the CIS and within the framework of cooperation with the World Health Organization," Semenov emphasized.
Tajikistan's Minister of Health and Social Protection, Jamoliddin Abdullozoda, presented the emblem for the Year of Health in the CIS, developed by his ministry, to the meeting participants. "The emblem is based on the emblem of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The logo symbolizes concern for health, humanity, and the unity of the CIS member states. The center of the emblem depicts a heart, a symbol of life, surrounded by hands, symbolizing support and protection. The green color palette reflects a commitment to development and trust," the minister explained.
The emblem was proposed for use in official documents for the Year of Health events and on the official websites of CIS countries. The meeting participants approved the logo.
The Council meeting is being held in Dushanbe as part of Tajikistan's 2025 chairmanship of the CIS. The event is attended by the health ministers of Tajikistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, as well as Oleg Salagai, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, and Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe. Around 30 issues are being discussed, including the potential use of artificial intelligence in diabetes care, cancer prevention, and the designation of several medical institutions as CIS core organizations.
