As part of the fruitful cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Russian Federation, the Russian side will donate 800,000 copies of Russian language textbooks to Tajikistan's public schools in 2025. This was announced by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The initiative is being implemented on the basis of a bilateral agreement between the Ministry of Education and Science of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, with the participation of the Russian publishing house "Prosveshchenie".
These textbooks are intended for students in grades 3–4 and are developed in accordance with modern educational standards. The primary goal of these textbooks is to improve the quality of Russian language instruction at the elementary level and provide schools with modern teaching materials.
The textbooks are adapted to the social, cultural, and educational characteristics of Tajikistan and are intended for use in all general education schools in the country where Russian is taught.
As of September 2025, over 118,000 copies of textbooks have already been delivered to Tajikistan. The remainder are in the printing stage and will be delivered to schools according to the approved schedule.
This project is an important part of the strategic cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia in education and science. It complements other joint initiatives, including the opening of Russian-language schools and the training of teachers, thereby strengthening educational integration between the two countries.
Particular attention is paid to the study of Russian and English in Tajikistan. This is confirmed by the Presidential Decree of April 4, 2003, "On improving the teaching and learning of Russian and English in Tajikistan."
Tajikistan was one of the first countries to adopt the "State Program for Improving the Teaching of Foreign Languages, Including Russian," at the legislative level. According to state educational standards, Russian is included in the list of compulsory subjects at the primary, secondary, and higher vocational education levels. Russian is studied in all schools across the country, beginning in the second grade.
President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon emphasized: “The Russian language is a second native language for Tajiks, and its significance for our society is not declarative, but real.”
