In Kazakhstan, they have proposed changing the requirements for knowledge of the state language and the Constitution for admission to citizenship, Tengrinews.kz reports.
The Ministry of Science and Higher Education has prepared a draft amendment to the order on determining the amount of knowledge of the Kazakh language, the Constitution and the history of the country required to obtain or restore citizenship. The new draft document proposes adjusting the minimum threshold scores for each discipline:
- state language – not less than 15 points;
- Fundamentals of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan – not less than 20 points;
- History of Kazakhstan – not less than 15 points.
For comparison: currently, to obtain citizenship, one must score at least 36 points in the state language and at least 9 points in the Constitution. The history requirements remain the same.
As explained by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the proposed reduction of the overall threshold by 10 percent will balance the number of questions for each discipline and ensure fairer testing for applicants.
Public discussion of the project is taking place on the Open NPA portal and will last until July 25.
