Russian armed forces launched a massive attack on Kryvyi Rih in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on his Telegram channel on Friday, October 17.
"A wave of drones struck Kryvyi Rih, hitting civilian infrastructure. Dozens more attack drones were in the sky. Missiles were also detected," Zelensky noted.
According to the Ukrainian leader, in recent weeks, "not a single night has passed without Russian strikes on Ukraine." The main target of the attacks, Zelenskyy emphasized, is infrastructure, including energy facilities, which he characterized as "systemic terror against the energy sector."
City Defense Council Chairman Oleksandr Vilkul reported that 22 drones were shot down in the skies over Kryvyi Rih. More than ten of the hits caused fires that were quickly extinguished. He added that there were no casualties.
The village of Avangard, as well as the Verabovo and Mirovskoye neighborhoods, were left without power. Trolleybus service toward Mirovskoye has been temporarily suspended, and a bus has been diverted.
Nikopol and the Pokrovsky district were also attacked using heavy artillery and drones. Two women, aged 69 and 89, were injured. Three apartment buildings, four private homes, and three cars were damaged.
The Ukrainian President emphasized that security can be guaranteed only if all agreements reached, particularly during Zelenskyy's visit to Washington, are implemented. "Russia will be forced to stop the war when it can no longer continue," the Ukrainian leader concluded.
On the evening of October 16, Zelenskyy arrived in the United States. The Ukrainian president's plane landed at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington, D.C. During his visit, he will meet with US President Donald Trump, as well as representatives of American defense and energy companies.
Kryvyi Rih is the hometown of the President of Ukraine.
