Tajikistan plans to provide internet access to every school in the country. This issue was discussed at a meeting between Isfandiyor Sadullo, Head of the Communications Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and a delegation from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), led by Christopher Fabian, co-founder and co-chair of the GIGA initiative.
The parties discussed steps for the practical implementation of the project in the Republic of Tajikistan and agreed on further cooperation and regular dialogue to implement the initiative.
It is noted that the years 2025–2030 have been declared a period of development of the digital economy and innovation, which creates favorable conditions for the implementation of this initiative in the country.
The GIGA initiative is a joint project between UNICEF and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Its goal is to connect every school in the world to the internet. To date, the project has covered 142 countries, mapping schools and assessing their connectivity readiness.
During the meeting, opportunities to promote the development of the digital economy in Tajikistan and connect every school in the country to high-speed internet were discussed. The parties emphasized the importance of integrating modern digital technologies into the educational process, improving the quality of education, and creating equal access to educational resources for all schoolchildren in the country.
Cooperation within the GIGA initiative is seen as strategically important for advancing digitalization in education, preparing students for the modern demands of the information society, and achieving national goals for developing an innovative economy.
