The number of dollar billionaires worldwide increased by 287 as of April 2025 compared to the same period a year earlier, according to a study by the Swiss bank UBS, Interfax reports.
This is the largest increase since the study began, with the exception of 2021, when 416 new billionaires appeared worldwide.
Of these, 91 people inherited their fortunes, totaling $298 billion. This is a new record. According to UBS estimates, billionaires will leave their heirs at least $5.9 trillion over the next 15 years.
There are 2,919 billionaires worldwide (2,545 men and 374 women). Their combined wealth increased by 13% over the year, reaching $15.8 trillion.
In the United States, the wealth of dollar billionaires jumped 18% to $6.9 trillion. The number of American billionaires increased by 89 to 924, accounting for 31.7% of the global total. The list added 109 new names and lost 18 to death or impoverishment.
The Asia-Pacific region has the second-largest wealth of billionaires in the world, with $4.2 trillion (up 11.1%), and Europe, the Middle East, and Africa are third, with $4.1 trillion (up 10.4%).
The world's billionaires in manufacturing increased their combined wealth by 27.1% last year, reaching $1.7 trillion. The lion's share of this wealth belongs to the world's richest man, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla. In the IT sector, billionaires own $3 trillion in assets (up 23.8%), in finance – $2.3 trillion (up 17%), and in consumer goods and retail – $3.1 trillion (up 5.3%).
