Russia and Tajikistan have agreed to discuss the possibility of launching a direct passenger train between Moscow and Dushanbe. Russian Transport Minister Andrei Nikitin announced this to journalists, according to TASS.
"We have very successful passenger service from Tajikistan to Volgograd. Passenger traffic is growing, and the figures are good. We agreed to discuss the possibility of launching a Moscow-Dushanbe train. While we haven't yet discussed the specific formation of the train, there is positive momentum. We'll see what happens and calculate the impact, with Russian Railways being the first to participate, of course," the minister stated.
Nikitin emphasized that the train's launch is still in the early stages of discussion. "It's still early days, so it's too early to talk about any timeframes," he added.
The Russian Minister of Transport also noted growing interest in passenger transport between Russia and Tajikistan, and the successful experience of the route to Volgograd is considered one of the factors for the possible launch of direct rail service to Dushanbe.
