Tajik President Emomali Rahmon held an official meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as part of the second Central Asia–Russia Summit and the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), taking place in Dushanbe.
During the talks, the heads of state reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership and alliance between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the most significant agreements reached at the highest level, as well as to exchanging views on pressing regional and international issues.
The President of Tajikistan noted that Kazakhstan is one of the republic's key partners and expressed readiness to further develop strategic and allied cooperation. The parties emphasized the importance of the Alliance Treaty, which opens new opportunities for the comprehensive development of bilateral cooperation.
According to official sources, mutual trade between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan amounted to $670 million in the first half of 2025, confirming Kazakhstan's leading role among the country's trading partners. During the meeting, interest was expressed in further increasing trade turnover, expanding the range of export and import products, and intensifying the work of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
The presidents also discussed developing cooperation in energy, industry, investment, and the implementation of new technologies, including green initiatives. They also discussed areas of humanitarian cooperation, including education, culture, and the exchange of experience between the countries.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed his support for the upcoming Central Asia–Russia summit and the CIS Heads of State Council meeting. He wished the President of Tajikistan success at the events and emphasized the importance of joint efforts by regional countries to strengthen stability, develop cooperation, and implement strategic projects.
The talks took place during the Kazakh leader's working visit to Dushanbe and are aimed at deepening the strategic partnership, expanding bilateral cooperation, and coordinating joint efforts on pressing regional and international issues.
