On October 9, a regular meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers was held in Dushanbe under the chairmanship of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Mukhriddin, the Tajik Foreign Ministry reported.
The heads of the foreign affairs agencies exchanged views on current issues on the international and regional agendas, focusing on regional security, the development of economic cooperation, humanitarian interaction, and the improvement of mechanisms for interaction within the Commonwealth.
Sirojiddin Mukhriddin briefed the participants on key events being implemented during Tajikistan's year as CIS Chairman. The Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to counter new challenges and threats, as well as the need to enhance the effectiveness of measures to strengthen regional security. Particular attention was paid to enhancing the effectiveness of CIS bodies in the current environment, as well as expanding practical cooperation in priority areas.
Among the key issues on the agenda were proposals to grant the SCO observer status in the CIS and to establish a “CIS Plus” format.
Following the meeting, the heads of the CIS foreign affairs agencies adopted a number of decisions aimed at increasing the effectiveness of CIS bodies and strengthening their role as an important mechanism for ensuring regional security and sustainable development.
