The Atlas of Environmental Changes in the Republic of Tajikistan, covering 60 years of environmental observations, was presented in the capital of Tajikistan. The publication was prepared as part of a regional project implemented since 2019 with the support of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Government of the Russian Federation, and leading scientific organizations.
Isfandiyor Shukurzoda, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan, delivered a welcoming speech. He emphasized that the Atlas is an important tool for state environmental policy and a platform for assessing the country's vulnerability to climate change. Representatives from the UN, the Embassy of the Russian Federation, the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia, and the scientific community also participated in the event.
The atlas includes satellite and archival data, maps of changes in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, and analytical materials on the impact of climate factors and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The scientific basis for the publication was provided by specialists from the Faculty of Geography of Lomonosov Moscow State University and the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
As the organizers noted, the publication will become an important resource for experts, government agencies, and civil society. Following the presentation, participants were given printed copies of the Atlas, and a discussion with the project's developers and experts followed.
