On the night of Friday, November 14, Russian forces launched one of the most powerful combined drone and missile strikes against Kyiv in recent months.
According to updated reports, three people were killed and approximately 30 injured in the overnight missile and drone strike on the Ukrainian capital. More than 40 people were rescued by the State Emergency Service. Among the injured were children, including a seven-year-old. One of the wounded is in critical condition, and a pregnant woman is among those hospitalized.
Strikes struck residential areas in virtually every district of the city. According to the Kyiv City Military Administration and Mayor Vitali Klitschko, at least 11 multi-story buildings were damaged in the Dniprovskyi, Podilskyi, Solomyanskyi, Desnyanskyi, Darnytskyi, Svyatoshinskyi, and Obolonskyi districts. Fires broke out on the upper floors of several buildings, forcing residents to evacuate.
According to the State Emergency Service, a high-rise building in the Podolsk district was hit on the 15th floor, where 13 people were rescued. In the Dniprovsky district, fires in two apartments on the first floor of a five-story building were extinguished, rescuing 17 people. Another fire caused partial destruction on the 19th and 21st floors. Wooden buildings of a sports facility also burned.
A fire broke out in a multi-story building on the 7th floor in the Desnyansky district. Nine people were rescued during the firefighting effort, and another 50 were evacuated. A fire in another multi-story building on the 5th-8th floors claimed one life, but 14 people, including a child, were rescued. Another person was extricated from the rubble.
In the Solomensky district, the roof and fifth floor of a residential building caught fire, and 20 people were rescued during the firefighting effort. In the Svyatoshinsky district, a residential building was hit on the seventh floor, and a fire in a 22-story building on the 19th floor was extinguished. In the Obolonsky district, a nine-story residential building was hit, causing a fire in apartments on the seventh through ninth floors.
A school, a medical facility, and administrative buildings were partially destroyed in the Holosiivskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts. In the Holosiivskyi district, debris fell on the hospital grounds. In the Darnytskyi district, a fire broke out on the grounds of a school. Cars burned in courtyards, and in the Shevchenkivskyi district, a fire was extinguished in an open area.
The city's infrastructure suffered significant damage: sections of the heating network were damaged, and several neighborhoods were experiencing outages in heating, electricity, and water supplies. According to the mayor, central heating was temporarily shut off in one area.
In the Kyiv region, according to Mykola Kalashnik, head of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, six people were injured. The attack led to fires in private homes, warehouses, and industrial facilities.
The strike on Kyiv was part of a major overnight attack across Ukraine. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reports that the Russian army used Shahed attack drones, Kalibr cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and, presumably, Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles.
Information on the number of victims and injured as a result of this attack continues to be clarified.
