Construction of a 3-megawatt solar power plant with a 0.5-megawatt energy storage system has begun in the Shugnan district of Tajikistan's Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO). This was reported by the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The project is being implemented in the village of Rozh at an altitude of 2,660 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest power plants in the country. It aims to expand the use of renewable energy sources and ensure a sustainable power supply in a remote region.
Construction work is currently 40% complete. The station is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of this year. Construction is being carried out by Tajikhydroelectromontazh.
The Ministry noted that the project's implementation will ensure a stable power supply for residents and socio-economic facilities in the region, as well as reduce the burden on traditional energy sources. Furthermore, the solar power plant's implementation is consistent with Tajikistan's national strategy for sustainable development and green energy.
The power plant will include a modern energy storage system, ensuring uninterrupted power supply even at night and under variable solar insolation conditions. The department emphasized that such projects contribute to the development of the country's highland regions and increase Tajikistan's energy independence.
