US President Donald Trump issued a series of harsh statements against Iran following the failure of negotiations between the two countries.
In an interview with Fox News, he stated that the United States could strike Iranian infrastructure, including power plants. He said such actions could leave the country without electricity for up to ten years.
Trump noted that in the event of such a scenario, Iran would have to rebuild its energy infrastructure. He also added that the United States is prepared to destroy bridges within the Islamic Republic.
The American leader expressed confidence that Tehran would eventually return to the negotiating table with Washington. He stated that he expected Iran to make concessions on key issues.
According to him, the previous threats against Iran contributed to the start of the negotiation process. Trump emphasized that the United States is ready to end the military operation against Iran at the appropriate time.
He also published a corresponding statement on the social network Truth Social, where he indicated that the American military “will, at the appropriate moment, complete the destruction of what little remains of Iran.”
Commenting on the failure of the talks held in Islamabad, Trump stated that the key issue remains Tehran's renunciation of its nuclear ambitions. He believed this factor was decisive compared to other agreements.
He also reiterated that Iran, he claimed, would never acquire nuclear weapons.
Trump also accused Iran of failing to fulfill its promise to open the Strait of Hormuz to shipping and called for it to do so immediately. He said Tehran's actions were damaging to many countries and violated international norms.
It was previously reported that Iran and the United States began talks in Islamabad on Saturday following Trump's announcement of a two-week ceasefire agreement. However, as US Vice President J.D. Vance stated, the parties failed to reach an agreement, and the American delegation left the talks without a deal.
On Sunday, Trump announced that the United States intends to blockade all vessels attempting to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz. He also instructed the US Navy to track and intercept vessels he claimed were paying Iran to pass through the strait.
