The Emergency Situations Committee of the Republic of Tajikistan has warned of increased danger on the country's roads and recommended that drivers refrain from traveling in adverse weather conditions, the agency's press service reported.
The Emergency Situations Committee reported that a rapid response team has been formed to deal with the aftermath of avalanches and road accidents. The special team is working in the Sughd region and providing assistance in the Zerafshan Valley. Citizens stranded on the Dushanbe-Khujand highway from the Ayni district due to avalanches and traffic jams were provided with a one-time meal.
The agency urged drivers to check road conditions in advance of their trips, prepare their vehicles, and carry de-icing products. Drivers are also advised to pay special attention to maintaining distance between vehicles.
Experts from the Emergency Situations Committee recommend that drivers strictly adhere to road safety regulations, refrain from speeding, wear snow chains, avoid driving into oncoming traffic during a collision, and not interfere with the operation of special equipment used to apply anti-slip coatings.
The agency emphasized that for safety reasons, drivers should refrain from driving in adverse weather conditions.
