Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran confirmed their intention to strengthen cooperation in energy and water resources management. This was announced following a meeting of the two countries' energy ministers, which took place on October 22 in Jeddah on the sidelines of the Fifth Islamic Conference of Ministers Responsible for Water Resources.
During the talks, Energy Ministers Daler Juma of Tajikistan and Abbas Aliabadi of Iran discussed prospects for further development of joint energy projects. Particular attention was paid to cooperation on the Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant, which provides up to 5% of Tajikistan's total electricity generation. Daler Juma noted this facility as a successful example of Tajik-Iranian partnership in the energy sector.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to hold the next meeting of the Joint Commission in Tajikistan and expressed their commitment to deepening cooperation in the fields of energy and water resources, as well as implementing new joint projects aimed at sustainable development in the region.
