The role of public councils in maintaining law and order was discussed in Dushanbe.

On May 30, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan held a roundtable discussion on "The Contribution of Public Councils to Ensuring Public Order and Expanding Police-Community Cooperation." The event was organized in accordance with a joint plan between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, according to the ministry's press service.

Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, members of the Public Council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan, and representatives of civil society participated in the roundtable.

The event was opened by Police Colonel Azam Tolehzoda, National Coordinator for Police Reform at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan. In his speech, he noted the important role of public councils in implementing police reform, strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation between law enforcement agencies and society, and engaging citizens in ensuring public safety.

Next, Khotam Yatimzoda, Chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan, spoke. He discussed the experience of law enforcement agencies interacting with the public, the role of citizens in preventing crime and offenses, improving the public's legal awareness, and strengthening public trust in the police.

During the discussion, participants considered issues related to the further development of police-community cooperation, citizen engagement in maintaining public order, crime prevention among adolescents and young adults, countering negative phenomena, and improving the work of public councils.

In addition, an exchange of views took place on issues of further strengthening cooperation between internal affairs agencies and civil society institutions.

Following the roundtable discussion, several members of the Public Council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan were awarded letters of gratitude and commemorative gifts for their contributions to developing police-community cooperation, supporting police reform, and actively participating in the council's work.

The event was held in an atmosphere of constructive dialogue and exchange of experiences. Participants expressed their willingness to further expand cooperation to ensure public order and citizen safety.
