Belarus and Tajikistan are interested in developing cooperation in light industry, high-tech manufacturing, agriculture, and other economic sectors, according to Gennady Lepeshko, Chairman of the Standing Commission on National Security of the House of Representatives of Belarus and head of the working group for interaction with the Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan, BelTA reports.
Today, a meeting of the working groups on cooperation between the parliaments of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Tajikistan took place via videoconference.
Gennady Lepeshko noted that regular parliamentary elections were held in Tajikistan on March 2, after which committees, standing commissions, and friendship groups were formed, including with Belarus. "Our first meeting took place today. We expressed our readiness to work not only in legislative matters but in all spheres of life. We, as parliamentarians, are ready to cooperate in legislative work—we have certain experience, and we can advise on where and in what areas, and what documents to draft," he said.
According to the parliamentarian, Tajikistan is interested in Belarusian high-tech technologies, as well as cooperation in agricultural machinery and equipment for the coal industry. Belarus, in turn, is interested in Tajik aluminum, cotton fiber, cotton fabrics, nuts, vegetables, and fruits. "There is interest on both sides," Lepeshko emphasized.
"New areas of life are emerging now, too. For example, artificial intelligence, high-tech manufacturing, and new technologies. We've had a bit more success in this area, so if there's interest, we'll share this experience," he noted.
Gennady Lepeshko also reported that the business communities of both countries are developing cooperation between the regions. "Here, governors and heads of regional administrations have the freedom to choose the areas where cooperation is beneficial. And we, parliamentarians, should only provide assistance—give advice, help organize the work and interaction. I think we'll succeed," he concluded.
