A year of Beijing's rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has given impetus to its sustainable development. This was the conclusion reached by participants in the meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers held yesterday in Tianjin, northern China.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi: "Over the past year, more than 100 events have been held under the theme of the Year of Sustainable Development. As the chair, China has upheld the SCO's traditions by encouraging innovation. We have made significant progress in politics, security, economic cooperation and multilateral interaction."
Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Nurlan Yermekbayev: "The majority of member states expressed strong support for the proposal to establish a development bank or other financial institution, and also noted the active cooperation over the past year in such new areas as start-ups and innovation, artificial intelligence, green energy, and green industry."
The foreign ministers of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, India, Iran and Belarus discussed preparations for the two-day SCO summit, which starts in Tianjin on August 31. The heads of state of 10 countries will consider a new 10-year development strategy for the SCO.
