On February 25, Penza Region Governor Oleg Melnichenko held a working meeting with representatives of the Tajik delegation, according to the Khatlon Region press service.
The delegation's introduction to the region began with a tour of the historic hall of the Governor's House. The delegation included six district leaders from Khatlon Region and the regional governor. During the bilateral meeting, the parties discussed the importance of cooperation between the two countries.
Penza Region Governor Oleg Melnichenko noted that there is significant untapped potential in trade and economic relations and emphasized his interest in comprehensively developing cooperation with the Khatlon Region of the Republic of Tajikistan. He noted that the Penza Region is actively developing its mining, manufacturing, food, and light industries. He also noted that Khatlon Region is a leader in the energy sector and one of the largest cotton-producing regions. The Governor expressed hope that the meeting will lay a solid foundation for strategic cooperation between the regions.
The Chairman of the Khatlon Region of the Republic of Tajikistan, Davlatali Said, emphasized that the signing of an agreement between the Khatlon Region and the government of the Penza Region on the implementation of international and foreign economic relations in the economic, scientific, technical, and humanitarian spheres gives particular significance to the meeting.
Oleg Melnichenko noted that the Republic of Tajikistan is already among the Penza Region's top ten largest partner countries. He stated that exports to the Republic increased by 14 percent last year and are approaching one billion rubles. Penza enterprises supply meat and dairy products, confectionery, and timber. Knitwear is also imported from Tajikistan.
