The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide Tajikistan with nearly €10 million in loans and grants for two infrastructure projects in water supply and heating, the country's Ministry of Finance announced .
The signing ceremony took place on October 6 in Dushanbe. The documents were signed by Tajikistan's Minister of Finance, Faiziddin Qahhorzoda, and EBRD Vice President Mark Bowman.
Under the agreements, €4.8 million will be allocated to the Yavan Water Supply Improvement Project. Half of this amount—€2.4 million—is provided as a loan, and the remaining €2.4 million as a grant. In addition, the EBRD will provide €450,000 in technical assistance to support the project.
The Bank will also provide assistance in modernizing Dushanbe's heating system. $6 million (approximately €5.1 million) has been allocated for this purpose, $3 million of which will be provided as a grant and another $3 million as a loan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed key areas of cooperation and emphasized the EBRD's important role in the sustainable development of Tajikistan's economy. Particular attention was paid to supporting infrastructure projects, developing green energy, particularly solar energy, expanding green financing programs, improving public services in the country's regions, and promoting digitalization.
Mark Bowman noted that the EBRD will continue to support Tajikistan in implementing strategic projects aimed at improving the population's quality of life and modernizing key economic sectors. Finance Minister Fayziddin Qahhorzoda, in turn, expressed the government's readiness to expand its partnership with the Bank and increase funding for priority projects.
