A meeting was held in Dushanbe to discuss measures to provide the population with micronutrients and vitamin supplements in healthcare facilities as part of the "Improving Agricultural Sustainability" project, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan.
The meeting discussed the consequences of unbalanced nutrition, including high levels of maternal and child mortality, and emphasized the need for access to quality foods and nutritional supplements for various population groups.
The project aims to support food security and the implementation of the Tajikistan Population Health Strategy until 2030. The initiative includes the procurement of micronutrients for pregnant women and vitamin supplements for children aged 6 to 59 months, in accordance with clinical guidelines. Additionally, training programs for healthcare professionals and public awareness campaigns are being conducted.
To prevent nutrition-related diseases, the Law "On Providing the Population with Fortified Food Products" was adopted in 2019, and the "Program for the Prevention of Micronutrient Deficiency and Related Diseases among the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2022-2027" was approved in 2021.
During the meeting, the project's implementation results were summarized and ways to further improve measures to provide the population with essential nutritional supplements to reduce the risk of diseases associated with vitamin and mineral deficiencies were discussed.
