On the morning of October 24, Russian forces launched a massive artillery strike on residential areas of Kherson. According to preliminary reports, three people were killed and 14 others were wounded as a result of the shelling.
According to the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, three women were among the dead. Among the injured were two minors, aged 15 and 17, who suffered concussions and mine blast injuries. The younger of the two was at home at the time of the attack, while the older one was outside.
According to the Kherson Regional Military Administration (GVA), the attack targeted the city's Korabelnyi district from the temporarily occupied left bank. All victims were either in their homes or on the streets at the time of the attack.
The shelling damaged private and apartment buildings, vehicles, and urban infrastructure. A Russian strike also hit a shuttle bus. One of the passengers, a 65-year-old woman, suffered a concussion and a mine blast injury and was taken to the hospital. A 31-year-old man also sought medical attention with a traumatic brain injury, a concussion, and a leg wound.
Among those hospitalized were a 60-year-old woman with a mine blast injury and a shrapnel wound to the shoulder, a 48-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man, who were diagnosed with closed craniocerebral and mine blast injuries.
The Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the commission of war crimes that resulted in the death and injury of civilians (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The Kherson region is subject to daily shelling by the Russian army, which targets civilian infrastructure from the temporarily occupied left bank of the Dnipro River. According to local authorities, the shelling often results in civilian casualties and damage to residential buildings and public facilities.
