On October 29, 2025, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin met with the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission to Tajikistan, Matthew Gertner, and members of the delegation to discuss the implementation of the Policy Coordination Initiative (PCI), according to the ministry's press service.
Zavqizoda Z.A. noted that as a result of high-level meetings between the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, bilateral relations have reached a qualitatively new level.
At the same time, it was emphasized that in January-September 2025, despite the impact of external factors, in particular global economic turbulence, increased geo-economic tensions and trade conflicts, thanks to the fulfillment of the instructions of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, the timely implementation of the country's strategic goals, as well as the adoption of relevant government decisions, programs and strategies, the rate of real growth of the gross domestic product amounted to 8.2 percent, and its volume increased to 117.8 billion somoni.
According to forecast macroeconomic indicators, the growth rate of the national economy for 2025 and 2026 is projected at 8.2 and 8.5 percent, respectively.
During the meeting, Zavqizoda Z.A. appealed to IMF representatives with a request to provide support in increasing the volume of concessional external loans to implement the priorities and goals set by the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, in the area of developing sectors of the national economy and ensuring the sustainability of macroeconomic indicators.
For his part, Matthew Gertner praised the stability of macroeconomic indicators and the economic successes achieved by Tajikistan in recent years and for the first nine months of 2025, expressing the IMF's readiness for further cooperation.
In this regard, Zavqizoda Z.A. thanked the IMF for revising its forecast for Tajikistan's national economic growth in 2025 to 7.5 percent, noting that, as the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon, emphasized: "Modern Tajikistan is a country with a rapidly developing economy, reliably growing international ties, and a favorable investment climate."
In conclusion, the parties expressed their readiness to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation.
