The Shakhristan district of the Sughd region is considered one of the key potato-growing centers in the region. Favorable climate conditions and fertile soil allow local farmers to produce high yields of this crop, according to the press service of the regional governor.
On May 1, during a working visit to the district, Sughd Region Chairman Rajab Akhmadzoda took part in a collective potato planting in the villages of Vahdat and Chashmasor.
As noted, following the instructions and orders of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, farmers in the region, through the drilling of vertical wells, brought 201 hectares of dryland and previously unused land into agricultural use and organized potato cultivation on them.

In total, 300 hectares of rainfed land, pastures and fallow lands have been brought into circulation in the Shakhristan district this year.
Farmers say expanding potato cultivation will increase production volumes and make a significant contribution to providing the population with food.
It is noted that last year, more than 72 thousand tons of potatoes were produced in the region, while this year the goal is to increase this figure to more than 100 thousand tons.

Along with the development of potato farming, the region is also focusing on livestock farming. At the initiative of local entrepreneurs, a farm for breeding small and large cattle, as well as horses and camels, has been established. The facility was built in compliance with all requirements, and construction and equipment are currently underway.
Local residents are provided with permanent jobs and decent wages to care for livestock.
After reviewing the progress of the work, the regional chairman praised the entrepreneurs' efforts, emphasizing that the creation of such farms is crucial for the development of the local economy and the provision of the domestic market with high-quality products.
