During a working visit to Mongolia, Nematullo Hikmatullozoda, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan on Economic Issues, and Daler Juma, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan, met with the leadership of the Asian Development Bank's regional office. The talks took place on June 12, 2026, in Ulaanbaatar, according to the press service of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan.
The meeting was attended by Leia Gutierrez, Director General of the Asian Development Bank's Central and West Asia Department, and Asad Alim, Regional Head of Cooperation and Regional Integration.
The parties focused on the project “Efficient management of water resources of the Bahri Tojik reservoir”.
During the discussion, Nematullo Hikmatullozoda noted that this project has transboundary and regional significance and falls into the category of infrastructure projects for adaptation to climate change that benefit more than one country.
It was noted that the project includes strengthening the reservoir's protective dams to reduce the risk of flooding, reconstructing and modernizing pumping stations, improving the reclamation status of land and drainage systems, and implementing a modern digital SCADA control system.
According to meeting participants, the project's implementation will improve the efficiency of water resource management at the Bahri Tojik Reservoir in the face of climate change, enhance the reliability of water supply for agricultural irrigation, and increase the potential for electricity generation.
It was also emphasized that the preliminary feasibility study for the project was prepared with the support of the Asian Development Bank.
