In 2025, 216 dusty days were recorded in Tajikistan, which is more than seven months of the year, Bakhodur Sheralizoda, Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection, announced at a press conference today.
According to him, 63 dust storms were recorded in the republic over the past year.
"Each dust storm that hits the republic lasts several days. Dust storms originate from the deserts of North Africa and the Middle East, and dust and sand are carried to our country by cyclones," noted Bakhodur Sheralizoda.
He added that 35 dust storms were recorded in 2024, but the number of days with increased dust levels was not specified at the time.
In addition, the chairman of the country's Committee for Environmental Protection stated that some international air quality ratings are unreliable.
"For example, IQAir conducts a rating, but they themselves sell air quality monitoring equipment, and I believe that a company that sells equipment cannot conduct an objective rating," Sheralizoda emphasized.
According to IQAir, a global leader in air quality monitoring, Tajikistan was among the top ten countries with the most polluted air in 2024. However, the Committee's representatives noted that data from international organizations does not reflect the actual air quality situation in the country.
