US President Donald Trump said he expects a trilateral meeting between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States. However, the American leader expressed doubts about the possibility of a separate bilateral summit between Kyiv and Moscow. He stated this in an interview with the Daily Caller .
According to Trump, the format and level of the upcoming meeting have not yet been determined. "After a while, they'll be happy to stop, you know? It's almost the same thing. Sometimes they need a little fighting before you can stop them. But this has been going on for a long time. A lot of people have died," he said, comparing the fighting to a conflict between children on a playground.
The White House chief also reiterated that Washington does not intend to send its troops to Ukraine as part of security guarantees. "These guarantees should primarily be provided by European countries, and the United States will assist," the president noted.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron previously called on Trump to respond to the fact that his announced personal meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy never took place. Following the Ukraine summit in Washington on August 18, the American president set a two-week deadline for it, which expires this weekend.
