The Israeli government is discussing the possibility of annexing West Bank territories. The issue was included on the agenda of a cabinet meeting on security matters chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Reuters and Axios reported, citing sources.
It is noted that a final decision on the annexation of lands captured by Israel during the 1967 Arab-Israeli War has not yet been made. It remains unclear whether the Israeli leadership is considering full annexation or only individual settlements.
According to US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, further actions will largely depend on the position of US President Donald Trump. During his first term, he twice blocked annexation plans, but the current situation could develop differently. "I'm not sure there's a unified view within the Israeli government about which territories it would affect and how extensive it would be," the diplomat emphasized.
At the same time, some Israeli officials believe that the Trump administration may not object to annexation in response to the decision of several countries to recognize Palestine.
