The Government of Tajikistan and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) signed a loan agreement for the construction of roads between villages on the left bank of the Rogun Reservoir. The new road network will be 55 kilometers long, and the total financing amount is 280 million somoni. This was announced by President of the Republic of Tajikistan and Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon during a meeting with Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) construction workers on August 27.
The head of state noted that 75 km of international and 75 km of local roads have already been commissioned on the right bank of the reservoir in the Obigarm-Nurobod zone as part of state investment projects, along with 11 bridges totaling 1 km in length and three tunnels totaling 5.9 km. The total cost of these projects exceeded 3 billion somoni.
In addition, in 2025, high-quality asphalt paving of 11 km of the national road from the central highway to the entrance to the city of Rogun was completed.
President Rahmon also announced the start of construction on a major 920-meter bridge across the Rogun Reservoir, with a total funding of 800 million somoni. Completion of the project is scheduled for 2028.
The implementation of these infrastructure projects is aimed at improving transport accessibility, regional development, and improving the quality of life for the population, the head of state emphasized.
