The Kyrgyz Border Service reported the arrest of two Kyrgyz citizens who, according to the agency, attempted to illegally drive cattle across the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.
The incident occurred on June 16 in the Kuruk-Sai district of Batken Oblast. Around 12:30 a.m., Batken Border Detachment officers discovered an attempt to illegally drive animals across the state border, as reported by Report.kg.
According to the Kyrgyz Border Service, two Kyrgyz citizens attempted to smuggle 17 cows and one horse into Tajikistan outside of designated checkpoints.
According to the department, before attempting to drive the animals, the violators damaged the state border's engineering barriers by cutting the barbed wire of the fence.
During the arrest, the men resisted border guards. In response, the senior border guard fired two warning shots into the air. Despite this, the intruders continued to resist.
Border guards then used their weapons, resulting in one of the detainees being wounded in the lower limb.
Border guards provided first aid to the victim and took him to a hospital in the city of Batken, where he underwent surgery.
According to the agency, the wounded man's condition is assessed as satisfactory.
After their arrest, both citizens were handed over to police officers for further investigation.
