Passenger traffic between Russia and Tajikistan increased by 29.5% by the end of 2025, according to the Russian Ministry of Transport, TASS reports.
The agency also noted an increase in rail freight traffic between the two countries. By the end of 2025, this figure had increased by 18.1%, exceeding 2.5 million tons.
According to the Russian Ministry of Transport, the volume of rail freight transport between the two countries reached 900,400 tons from January to April 2026, a 14.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
In addition, passenger rail service between Dushanbe and Moscow is planned to launch on June 21.
The ministry reported that the two countries continue to exchange permits for road freight transport on a regular basis. Specifically, 141 Tajik permits have been issued to Russian carriers.
By 2026, the parties have preliminarily exchanged 1,200 permits for transportation to and from third countries.
The Russian Ministry of Transport also noted that the introduction of navigation seals and digital technologies will reduce cargo delivery times by up to 27%.
The Russian side expressed interest in developing alternative and multimodal transport routes and declared its readiness to participate in projects to build and modernize Tajikistan's transport infrastructure.
According to the department, the parties agreed to develop multimodal transportation between Russia, Central Asian countries, and China, intensify work on implementing the Roadmap, and expand cooperation in digital technologies.
